About

Kim Grivas is a passionate artist living and working on the beautiful south coast of NSW.

Her present practice embraces nature through observation, with expressive interpretations of her still life compositions, often sourced straight from her garden.

My garden is my sanctuary where I go to relax, collect flowers for my home, rest and reflect. It soothes my mind and body and is central to my practice.”

Kim works in the alla prima style using luscious, richly pigmented and abundantly applied oil paints. She paints swiftly to reveal the flowers and foliage, alive and changing over the course of the day. Her palette is always limited to 4-6 colours including white. This enables her to mix and reproduce colours quickly to implement a fast and loose alla prima process.

I like to capture the spirit of the moment and the transitory splendour of my subject, flowers. Oils and their impasto qualities provide the connection to my favourite artists of the past particularly Van Gogh, Bonnard, Matisse and Renoir.”

“Many years of teaching and practicing in a variety of creative mediums have directed my practice closer to home, my garden and interiors of my home. I am heavily influenced by what surrounds me, the spaces and the objects that fill them”

Immersed in the artistic community of the south coast, Kim fills her days teaching and coaching young students in their artistic endeavours, and running one of the south coasts art hubs where she provides service and advice to the local arts community.

On top of this she still manages to make her artistic practice a priority, scheduling in time every week to ensure she maintains the momentum to build a successful arts practise. Having been invited to host workshops and exhibitions alike by local galleries, Kim is a deep well of information, knowledge and ideas for local artists and students.

After years of refining her artistic practice, Kim’s painting has now become a treasured and non negotiable part of her daily life, where she finds value and inspiration in every artistic interaction that comes her way.
